The naturalist will spend an hour with you and your guests. You may schedule with your naturalist what time you would like those activities to happen. Please choose two activities from the following list or create a custom activity with the naturalist. Dipnetting – Fishing in the channel next to our building with small nets, looking for fish and other aquatic animals. Feeding Frenzy – Feed the aquaria in our Habitat Room including our leopard shark pups and other Habitat Room residents. Touch Tank – An opportunity to touch and handle some of our resident snails, crabs, and other aquatic animals (excluding the sharks). Meet the Reptiles - We have two friendly gopher snakes that love to come out and meet visitors. Craft Activity – The naturalist will lead a craft activity that your guests can take home. Our most popular activity is painting pre-made ocean-themed magnets. Trail Hike – Hike the trail and explore the salt marsh. Find edible plants and hidden wildlife, from gopher snake holes to jackrabbit scat! Scavenger Hunt – Kids follow clues in the building or on the trail to complete the hunt while discovering the natural history of the shoreline. Custom Activity – If your party has a theme and you have some ideas for activities, we are happy to work with you to make them a reality.
• Parents are asked to monitor the behavior of their guests. • Many programs involve live animals that need to be handled carefully. • Make sure that no paper products, candy wrappers, party favors or balloons end up outside the facility or in the salt marsh. • Children should be fed in the “Mud Lab” and should not be allowed to walk around with food. • Please be mindful of the instructor’s time. The presentation will start no later than 10 minutes after scheduled time if guests are late. • There is no smoking permitted in the Interpretive Center and surrounding trails.
GO GREEN with a Zero Waste Party! The Interpretive Center has reusable crab- and shell- themed plates and cups for your use, free of charge. We encourage you to use reusable or compostable plates, cups and tablecloths for your party. All food waste and recyclables must be disposed of appropriately. We will provide you with recycle bins and landfill trash receptacles. Recyclables, compostables and garbage must be properly separated. Ask the naturalist if you would like to use our reusable supplies.
